Inspired by the classic Japanese Higonokami, this knife preserves the simplicity and character of the traditional design. The blade is handcrafted from W2 tool steel and individually clay-hardened to create a natural hamon, giving every piece its own distinctive pattern.
Each knife is made entirely by hand by North Mountain’s experienced craftsmen—from blade shaping, grinding, and heat treatment to the fabrication and final fitting of the solid copper handle.
The traditional non-locking construction uses the extended tang to control the blade, keeping the mechanism simple, reliable, and true to the original Higonokami style. Over time, the copper handle will develop a rich, unique patina that reflects how the knife has been carried and used.
